KSBDC About Us

What can the PSU KSBDC do for me?

KSBDC counselors are both educated and experienced in various business fields. The PSU KSBDC staff can assist you with start up considerations, such as assessing market demand and feasibility, developing a business plan and financial projections, and identifying sources of capital. In addition, they can provide assistance to existing small businesses, such as cash flow analysis, management strategies and record keeping advice.

The Mission of the Pittsburg State University Kansas Small Business Development Center is to facilitate small business development and subsequent economic growth throughout Southeastern Kansas. We provide start-up and existing businesses with assistance in planning, financing, budgeting, management, and operations.

The KSBDC is a partnership program. This partnership builds on the diversity and experience of each resource to meet the specialized needs of both existing and prospective businesses.

The KSBDC network promotes economic development by putting college/university, public/private sector based knowledge to work in business, industry and trade.

The PSU KSBDC is one of ten regional SBDC’s in Kansas. Any small business (generally, one with less than 500 employees) located or intending to locate within our service area may receive assistance from the PSU KSBDC. (See PSU counties on home page.)

US Small Business Administration LogoFunding
The U. S. Small Business Administration provides federal funding for the operation of the KSBDC. In order to qualify for these federal funds, the KSBDC must provide matching funds equal to the federal funds provided. Local cash match in an amount not less than 50 percent of federal funding is required. The remainder may be indirect or in-kind match. The Kansas Department of commerce and the eight host colleges and universities and the two hosts of the outreach centers provide local cash match.

Associate KSBDCs
If you are not in close proximity to Pittsburg, you may want to receive assistance at one of the associate centers. PSU KSBDC staff visit these locations for open counseling sessions (see schedule) and on an as needed basis for one-on-one counseling.
